Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
